In 1531, Martim Afonso de Souza, coming from Salvador on his
way to an expedition to the River da Prata, saw the island
named "Tynharea", today called Tinharé.
In the middle of the sixteenth century, Morro de São Paulo,
for its special location between the captain cies of Ilhéus
and Salvador, attracted pirates and smugglers who had free access
to the land and could hide in the several inlets which provided
good conditions for shelter and supply.
Nowadays
Morro de São Paulo is a warm place where all the human race
come together. Historical relics, gorgeous beaches, lots of places
to visit, hospitable people, typical food,
